HUMANISTIC APPROACH
Humanism
is a secular approach to life that accepts human responsibility and endeavour
in the shaping of individual, societal, and global existence. It emphasizes the
fact that the basic nature of humans is good.
The humanistic approach to personality is the contribution of
the humanities school of psychology. It originated as a revolt against the school
of psycho-analysis. It rejected the Fraudian notion that all human behaviour is
ultimately motivated by sexual and aggressive impulses. Humanism believes in
the goodness of man and in his positive nature. According to humanists, man has
a free will and freedom of choice, and the conscious experiences of a person
are most important in determining his personality. Each individual has the
ability to cope with stress, to control his life, and to achieve what he desire.
The behaviour of an individual is controlled by his innate motivation to attain
the highest possible emotional and intellectual potential.
