Characteristics of a well Adjusted Person

                A well adjusted person considers every new situation merely as a challenge and meets it with intelligence, courage and wisdom. The following are the important characteristic of a well adjusted person:

1. A well adjusted person knows his strength and limitations.
2. An adjusted individual possesses an adequate level of aspiration. His level of aspiration is neither too low nor too high in comparison to his own strength and abilities.
3. His basic needs like organic, emotional and social needs are fully satisfied. He does not suffer from emotional craving and social isolation.
4. He does not possess critical or fault finding attitude. He has a respect for himself and for others.
5. His behaviour is flexible, that is, he can easily adapt himself to the changed circumstances.
6. He is capable of struggling with odd circumstances. He has an inherent drive to master his environment rather than possibly accept it.
7. He has got a realistic perception of world.
8. A well adjusted person has own philosophy of life which is woven round the demands of his society.

Role of the Teacher in pupil’s Adjustment

                Teacher can take the following steps to bring an improved adjustment of pupils.

1. Provide a classroom climate that permits the students to feel free to express themselves and to put forth their best efforts as individuals and as members of group.
2. Develop pupil’s self-respect and self-esteem by compliments for work well done, a smile or a word of recognition.
3. The degree of one’s adjustment is directly proportional to one’s feeling of satisfaction with regard to one’s varying needs. Therefore, the school atmosphere should be such that the child should not suffer from physical, mental, emotional and social starvation.
4. Help the students in acquiring balanced emotional development and to exercise control over their emotions.
5. Help the students to set proper level of aspiration by identifying their needs and abilities.
