Warning Signs for Adolescent Suicide
Adolescents usually display a number of warning signs when
things seem so wrong in their lives that they have simply given up hope. The
behavioural changes that are indicative of suicidal tendencies in adolescents
include: (a) Withdrawal from family and peers, (b) Loss of interest in
previously pleasurable activities, (c) Difficulty concentrating on school work,
(d) Neglect of personal appearance,(e) Obvious changes in personality, (f)
Sadness and hopelessness, ( g) Changes in eating patterns such as sudden weight
loss or gain, (h) changes in sleep patterns, (i) General lethargy or lack of
energy, (j) Symptoms of clinical depression, (k) Violent actions, rebellion, or
running away, (l)Drug and alcohol use,
(m) Loss of ability to tolerate praise or rewards.
