Educational significance of
Individual Difference
Understanding
and appreciation of individual differences among pupils are fundamental to
providing each and every pupil with appropriate educational experiences geared
to his potentialities, and interests and experiential backgrounds. The democratic
approach in education envisages equal educational opportunities for all. Equal education
opportunity does not necessarily mean same educational opportunity that may
really promote greater inequality. Rather it means the best education for each
child. Pedo-centric education makes proper arrangements for a child’s
education, keeping in view his peculiar nature and special abilities. It should
make every individual capable of making his unique contribution to the society.
Some of
the important implications of individual differences in education are the following:
1 As far as possible, individual
method of instruction may be adopted.
2.
As very student has his
peculiar differences, individual attention should be paid by the teacher in the
classroom.
3.
As the individuals differ
in their interests and abilities, a large number of subjects of study should be
provided by the school, so that the student may have a wide choice in the
selection of the subject they offer for study
4.
Individual difference calls
for individualized curriculum, methods of teaching, evaluation techniques etc…
5.
Individuals differ widely
in their abilities, needs, interest, aptitude etc... therefore it is imperative
that arrangements be made to provide educational and vocational guidance to the
pupils individually
