Dealing with Loneliness
Ø Provide personal guidance
putting emphasis on understanding the cause of the problem, reversing the
negative thoughts, feeling s, and attitudes resulting from the problems
Ø
Assess the circumstances that
lead to rejection and assist the child in changing the situation. Show the child
how to adapt to the prevailing situation, and help him to clearly communicate
feelings and desires.
Ø
When loneliness is due to
extreme shyness, inhibition and lack of self-confidence, provide them with
necessary social skills needed to interact with their peer.
Ø
Children who possess
adequate social skills but are reluctant to use them can be given opportunities
for doing so by being paired with younger children.
Ø
Some lonely children may
benefit by being given opportunities to express their feelings of sadness
through manipulation, drawing and creative activities
