The Siachen Glacier is one of the world's longest mountain glaciers, and the world's second longest non-polar glacier.it is in the Karakoram Range system the Indo-Pakistan boarder ,and extends for 78 km from north-northwest to south-southeast.
it has a number of fast-flowing surface streams ,and is the source for the Nubra River. it is a bitterly cold region, and in winter,temperatures can dip to -50 degree Celsius.
since 1984 ,India and Pakistan have been locked in a bitter battle over the control of Siachen .Located at ,6,300 metres Siachen has became the world's highest battlefield. Because of the intense cold,more soldiers have died in from harsh weather conditions ,than from combat.
